Register a municipal by-law complaint online
We monitor complaints during regular business hours (Mon. to Fri., 8:30 am to 4:30 pm)
If your complaint is urgent and is an immediate health and safety concern, please call instead of using the online form.
- If the complaint is a Police, Fire or medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.
- Municipal Law Enforcement – For an urgent complaint that is an immediate health and safety concerns such as inadequate heat, please call 905-546-2782 during normal business hours OR 905-546-2489 (CITY) for calls outside of normal business hours, specifically, Monday to Friday, 4:30pm – 8:30am, weekends, and holidays.
- Building Division – For an urgent complaint relating to the structural integrity of a building or pools without enclosures, please call 905-546-2720 during normal business hours OR 905-546-2489 (CITY) for calls outside of normal business hours, specifically, Monday to Friday, 4:30pm – 8:30am, weekends, and holidays.
- For parking complaints, please call 905-540-6000.

If this is your first time submitting online with the City of Hamilton, you’ll need to complete two simple steps.

You will need to create an account at my.hamilton.ca/
- This is the City’s centralized access point that allows you to easily view, access, and submit a wide range of City services using one account.
- Once your City account is created, you can sign in anytime to manage your services online.
Step 2: Access the Customer Portal
- After signing into my.hamilton.ca/, select the By-law, Parking and Provincial Offences category to create your Customer Portal account.
- This completes your setup and allows you to submit your first application.

You will receive a recorded message that will prompt you to select one of five options:
- Press option 1 for environmental complaints such as long grass and weeds, garbage and debris, snow removal or graffiti
- Press option 2 for zoning and property standards complaints such as plumbing, vacant buildings or mobile signs
- Press option 3 for business, mobile or taxi licences
- Press option 4 for lottery licences
- Press option 5 for Project Compliance - inquiries on the Project Compliance Program, or for information related to a recent visit by our Project Compliance Enforcement Team
Your call will be directed to staff who will ask you for:
- Your contact information including name and phone number. This information is kept confidential. It is important to collect in case staff need additional information from you.
- Address of complaint.
- Details about complaint including dates and times.
- Nature of the complaint.
