Street Health Clinics

No appointment is needed to come to the Street Health Clinics.

• You need to be at the clinic at least 15 minutes before the clinic closes to see a public health nurse that day.
• You do not need a health card to come to the clinic

Services through Street Health Clinics

Public health nurses provide services at the Street Health Clinic that include:

• Needle exchange and harm reduction supplies such as alcohol swabs, sterile water, ascorbic acid, filters, cookers, sharps containers for safe disposal of used needles and safe injecting information. Supplies are not available to diabetics.
• Naloxone (Narcan) overdose prevention kits.  
• Anonymous and nominal HIV testing. You can choose to use your name (nominal) for an HIV test or you can get a code number and have anonymous testing. You can either have an HIV blood test where you get results back in two weeks or Rapid HIV testing.
• Rapid HIV testing, also known as Point of Care. We take a finger prick blood sample and your results are ready in just a few minutes.   
• Testing for sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and hepatitis. Physical exams for sexually transmitted infections are not available. Do not urinate for two hours before your clinic visit. Testing involves collecting urine and/or blood. We cannot give test results over the phone; you must return to the clinic in two weeks for results. 
• Free treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea. If you have symptoms of these infections or you know your partner has chlamydia or gonorrhea, you can get treatment before test results are confirmed.
• Free hepatitis A and B and tetanus vaccines. Vaccines are not available at Notre Dame.
• Free urine pregnancy testing and counselling.
• Free Emergency contraceptive pill, also known as ECP or the Morning After Pill. You can take ECP up to five days after unprotected sex. 
• Free condoms.
• Addictions Counselling on Tuesday 5 to 8 pm at Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre 181 Main Street West.

Other services at the Street Health Clinic include drop-in doctor and nurse practitioner services. You may require an Ontario Health Card to access these services.
