The Roundabout Landscape Design Guidelines is intended to help both the City of Hamilton, and proponents working within its jurisdiction, plan and design appropriate landscape treatments for roundabouts.
The guide outlines the process for establishing “Planting Zones” and corresponding “Vertical Growth Envelopes” within the context of ensuring the safe and functional operations at a roundabout. It also outlines specific design considerations for each landscape application. There are numerous elements to consider when designing roundabouts.
While geometry, lighting, and signage represent core design elements, landscape is a key secondary element that can enhance the effectiveness of overall roundabout design and function.
