About Mayor Andrea Horwath
Andrea Horwath is the 58th and current Mayor of Hamilton, taking office on November 15, 2022, and making history as the first woman elected to lead the city. Born and raised in Hamilton, she has dedicated her career to public service, community advocacy, and building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive city.
Before becoming mayor, she led the Ontario NDP from 2009 to 2022 and served as Official Opposition leader from 2018 to 2022. First elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly in 2004, she represented Hamilton Centre until her resignation in 2022, holding key critic roles in Intergovernmental Affairs, Economic Development, and Municipal Affairs.
Since taking office, Mayor Horwath has taken bold action to address Hamilton’s most pressing challenges. She has tackled the housing crisis by advancing affordable housing projects, invested in critical infrastructure to support growth and connectivity, strengthened the local economy, enhanced community safety, and worked to make life more affordable. Her leadership is focused on creating tangible, lasting impacts that improve the daily lives of Hamiltonians and ensure that the city thrives.
