Child care Inspections

Upon request, the Hamilton Fire Department will conduct paid inspections of both licenced and home child care.

Important Information:

• If you request an inspection and you are not the property owner, you will need to provide a written letter signed by the owner to Fire Prevention. If you need to submit written authorization it can be emailed to [email protected].

Licensed Child care Inspection
Fee $232.95 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2026
The fee includes the cost of a final compliance letter.
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of a licensed Child care centre.

Private Home Child care Inspection
Fee $96.95 (including HST) Effective January 1, 2026
The fee includes the cost of a final compliance letter.
Description: Fire Prevention inspection of private home child care. This inspection will ensure compliance with all applicable fire safety regulations and as a minimum, ensure there is an operational ULC listed smoke alarm installed on every floor level of the building and outside of all sleeping areas. It also ensures that there is a minimum ULC listed 2A10BC rated portable fire extinguisher mounted in the kitchen area.
Note: For properties in Stoney Creek be advised that the City of Stoney Creek Zoning By-Law 3692-92 only allows home daycares in single detached homes.
