Current Projects
The City of Hamilton is pleased to share that Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre is re-opening for drop-in programming beginning Wednesday June 18, 2025 and a reopening celebration will be confirmed and communicated in the coming weeks.
The following maintenance work was completed at the facility:
- 12,000 sf. Expansion on the North side of the existing building
- New double gymnasium sized to accommodate adult courts and multiple sports
- New multi-purpose room with fitness flooring, audio/video capability and hearing loop
- New reception area and front entrance canopy
- Painting, flooring, fixture and kitchen updates within existing building
- Pool filtration system replacement
- Pool basin regrout and tile renewal within pool enclosure
- Upgraded pool chair lift and removal stair accessibility enhancements
- Enhanced social lounge areas with seating in common areas
- Enhanced parking lot with new entrance and site walkability enhancements
- Site grading and additional landscaping features
The expansion includes construction of a brand-new double gymnasium with adult-sized courts for multiple sports (basketball, volleyball, badminton and pickleball). The project will also include new painting, flooring and fixtures within the existing building, a new reception and front entrance canopy, and a multi-purpose community space. Regular maintenance work on the pool will also be completed during this closure.
Programming at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre, including drop-in gym and swim, after-school program, and any other registered programs, will remain operational until June 30, 2023. Members of the public, rental groups and staff will no longer have access to the facility once construction begins.

The City of Hamilton is dedicated to providing residents with safe and efficient community recreation centres. The scheduled pool re-grout and basin maintenance, parking lot repair and exterior entrance enhancements at Ancaster Aquatic Centre will result in an updated facility. The closure to complete this work will take place from Saturday, August 2, 2025 to Monday, September 15, 2025.
During the closure, individuals are encouraged to attend drop-in and registered programs at the following locations:
- Ancaster Lions Outdoor Pool
- Dalewood Recreation Centre
- Dundas Community Pool
- Sir Allan MacNab Recreation Centre

The lifecycle renewal upgrades and enhancements scheduled at Huntington Park Recreation Centre from Monday, March 17, 2025 to late Fall 2025 will result in an updated facility featuring a new waterslide, pool, deck and changeroom updates as well as paint refresh in several spaces throughout the centre.
During the closure, individuals are encouraged to attend drop-in and registered programs at the following locations:

- Stoney Creek Recreation Centre
- Valley Park Community Centre

The City of Hamilton is pleased to share that the following work is planned to be completed at the facility during the closure period with an additional funding contribution from the Ward 6 Capital Re-Investment Reserve:
Planned Project Scope
- Removal and installation of a new pool water slide
- Pool basin and deck tile replacement
- Wall painting, flooring, tile replacement and fixtures within the pool changerooms
- Wall painting, flooring and fixtures as required within the facility washrooms.
Additional Project Scope – Ward 6 Capital Re-Investment Reserve Funded
- Washroom and changeroom partition replacements as required.
- Flooring upgrades in identified program spaces.
- Interior painting refresh in program rooms and hallways
- Community kitchen refresh
- Pool deck, lobby, hallways and office LED lighting upgrades.
- Pool mechanical maintenance
- Automatic door enhancement/replacement in identified spaces.
- Exterior walkway repairs
- Exterior stucco repair and painting refresh.
