Hamilton citizens are invited to Team Up to Clean Up
HAMILTON, ON – April 5, 2016. April is our Spring Blitz month and we encourage Hamilton citizens to take action and ownership of the cleanliness of our City. Team Up to Clean Up is a year-round city-wide community cleanup program. The program helps keep public places in your neighbourhood clean and safe for everyone.
You can host a clean up event on City property including:
- parks
- trails
- parking lots
- alleyways
- streets
This program provides all the tools registrants need to run a community clean up including:
- gloves
- recycling bags
- specially marked garbage bags
Participation is as simple as:
- putting together a group
- choosing a location
- setting a date
- picking up your no charge supplies from the City
In 2015, over 23,000 volunteers participated in Team Up to Clean Up. Volunteers collected 4,800 bags of garbage, 1,600 bags of recycling and invested more than 37,000 volunteer hours to help clean up our community. Hamilton residents can each do their part by registering for the Team Up To Clean Up program. “There’s a role in this for everyone. I encourage parents to sit with their children to discuss thoughts and ideas about beautifying the community. Many families and groups enjoy our program as it is something they can do as a team and the results are visible.” said Larry Husack, Chair, Keep Hamilton Clean and Green Volunteer Advisory Committee.
Mayor Eisenberger is an advocate of Keep Hamilton Clean and Green and has participated in the program for a number of years. "Team Up to Clean Up exemplifies the spirit of coming together and doing something small to contribute to the greater cause of protecting our environment," said Mayor Eisenberger. "Every effort adds to the cumulative effect of sustainable improvement and beautifying our city."
