Serving as an in-house specialist with the goal of advocating for road infrastructure, road safety and other municipal matters with the intent of providing awareness and information to municipal leaders on issues relating to CAA Club Group's advocacy efforts.

Promote the Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC) and its strategic priorities, which are each aimed at ensuring that Hamilton achieves net zero by 2050. This includes advocacy for funding for BACCC and opportunities to work in partnership with the City.

Advancement of Affordable and Supportive Housing

WE HBA will be engaged and provide comments, recommendations and advice to the city regarding Green Development Standards. This covers a wide range of issues from green building standards related to the construction and design of the structure itself to green development standards (sometimes referred to as Low Impact Development - LID) that are more related to planning policy on the landscape.

WE HBA supports the use and adoption of Pay on Demand Surety Bonds including the ability to transfer existing LOCs to a bonding instrument.

WE HBA supports long-term planning to ensure the necessary supply of housing of all types and tenures ranging from low-rise, missing middle, midrise, ADUs and highrise. This includes policies to enable and support an Urban Boundary Expansion to ensure long-range planning and infrastructure is in place to accommodate growth. This also includes policies to enable the intensification of existing neighbourhoods to allow for more housing opportunities (often referred to as missing middle) including ADUs and flexible zoning permissions.

WE HBA is supportive of investments into affordable housing and opportunities for the private sector to partner with all levels of government including the City of Hamilton. WE HBA intends to advocate for partnerships including utilization of surplus & under utilized lands and/or financial/planning incentives. WE HBA intends to participate in any consultations related to inclusionary zoning on the LRT corridor. Any such initiative must not result in cross subsidization, must be economically viable and be structured in a partnership model.

WE HBA has been involved in the review of the City of Hamilton Development Charges Background Study and By-Law. We supported maintaining downtown exemptions/discounts and a number of other discounts and provide the City with detailed financial analysis. WE HBA will also provide advice and recommendations on related municipal imposed charges on new housing including Parkland Dedication By-Laws and Parkland Studies as well as Community Benefits Charges.

Meeting and communicating with Council on all matters related to affordable housing and the various policies that interact and affect broad based housing affordability including green development policy, inclusionary zoning, and design and construction standards.
