Park Closures - List of Park Construction & Redevelopment Projects
Upper Redhill Park
Starting April 24, 2023
Portion of the park space is closed to accommodate grading and drainage improvements. The majority of the park including the multi use court, sun shelter and play area will be will remain open during this closure.
Pier 4 Park - Tugboat Play Structure
October 2, 2023 to Fall 2025
The tugboat playground is closed to undertake structural assessments to inform the design for improvements to the tugboat, new playground and new spray pad planned for 2025.
Pier 4 Park Winter Washroom
March 4, 2025 until further notice
The Pier 4 Winter Washroom has been vandalized and will remain closed until repairs are completed. There is a portable washroom at nearby Bayfront Park for public use.
Freelton Community Park - Tennis Courts
Thursday, March 5 to June 30, 2026
Portions the park will be closed to the public for the demolition and reconstruction of the Tennis Court. Construction access will be from Mill Street, adjacent to the Lions Club Picnic Shelter. The Lions Club Picnic Shelter and the basketball half-court will be closed for the duration of this construction for safety. The playground, baseball diamond and hockey rink will not be affected and will still be open to the public. Residents and park users may experience noise, dust, and possible access interruptions during the construction period.
Maplewood Park – North Pathway and Open Grass Area
Monday, May 18 to July 15, 2026
A contractor installing a new Multi-use court across from the play equipment within the park will be using the Second Rd. parking lot as a staging area with construction access along the North pathway of the park. Pedestrian access to the park from Parkvista Place will be impacted.
All amenities in the park remain open with the exception of a portion of the parking lot off of Second Road and the pathway along the northern edge of the park. During this work there will be limited access to the north pathway of the park from 7 am to 5 pm daily.
Edgelake Park
Monday, May 25 to June 30, 2026
The Edgelake Park Playground will be closed to facilitate the removal and replacement of the playground, and associated works. All other sections of the park will remain open and accessible during the construction including the tennis and basketball courts.
During this work, some areas of the park may be temporarily fenced off or restricted by construction access and equipment during daytime hours, Monday to Friday.
Gage Park Fountain
The Gage Park Fountain is temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance and waterproofing repairs from June to August 2026. The fountain will not be operating during this time and access around the fountain area will be restricted. The fountain is expected to reopen in August 2026.
Green Acres Park
Thursday, May 28, 2026 to Friday, June 26, 2026
The Green Acres Park swings will be closed to facilitate the removal and replacement of the swings with new expanded playground.
The pathway through the park will remain open and accessible during construction. All other areas including parking, fields and grass will remain open and accessible during the construction period. During this work, some areas of the park may be temporarily fenced off or restricted by construction access and equipment during daytime hours, Monday to Friday.
Inch Park
Monday, June 8 to December 31, 2026
The playground portion of the park will be closed to the public for the demolition of the existing walkways and playground, and the installation of concrete plazas and asphalt walkways, retaining walls, playground equipment, wood fibre safety surfacing, poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing, artificial turf, site furnishings, a water play feature, and plantings. Access through the existing playground area will be closed and entry to Ball Diamond #1 will be modified. All parking lots will remain open to support ongoing use of the ball diamonds, tennis courts, pool, and arena.
Rail Trail Dog Park (Corktown Park)
Monday, July 6 to Monday, July 13, 2026
The Rail Trail Dog Park will be closed on Monday July 6, 2026 at 8 am and reopen Monday July 13, 2026 at 8 am for the removal of poison ivy. Herbicide will be used. Application of the herbicide will be done in accordance with the Regulation.
Heritage Green Sports Park
Wednesday, July 8 to Friday, July 10, 2026
Echo Valley entrance will be closed Wednesday morning and evening, all traffic to use Frist Rd entrance.
First Rd entrance will be closed Thursday morning and evening, all traffic to use Echo Valley entrance.
Friday morning may have traffic implications depending on any potential delays that may arise.
Lake Pointe Park
July 27, 2026 to December 31, 2026
Lake Pointe Park will be closed for the construction of asphalt pathways, playground equipment, shade shelter, multi-use sports court, park lighting, special events power pedestal, concrete bench pads, site furnishings, and tree plantings. Public access to most of the park will be reduced; however, the perimeter will remain open to allow for some recreational use, and the paved plazas at each corner with trees and benches will provide rest areas.
