Concession Street Building Suffers Damage in Early Morning Fire
HAMILTON, ON – July 13, 2016 – Hamilton Fire Department received a report of a fire on the second floor of 618 Concession Street at approximately 1:46 am this morning and upon arrival, fire-fighters encountered heavy smoke conditions coming from the rear of the unit and immediately requested the dispatch of a multiple alarm to bring to bring additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after an aggressive attack and prevent its spreading through the balance of the block which contains several businesses and apartments. The occupants of the apartments were all able to self-evacuate with one tenant suffering minor smoke inhalation but was treated by on scene paramedics and released.
Fire damage was mostly confined to the 2nd floor of 618 Concession Street, and is estimated to be $100,000 and the occupant of the apartment where the fire originated has been given assistance to find alternate accommodations by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. There were no fire-fighter injuries reported at this incident.
