Firefighters Extinguish Large Grass Fire
HAMILTON, ON – July 29, 2016 – The Hamilton Fire Department received a report of a large grass fire in a farmer’s field in the area of 1135 Ridge Road on Stoney Creek Mountain late this morning. Upon arrival firefighters encountered several acres of a field on fire that was threatening to spread to nearby homes and recreational trailers at the rear of one property.
As a result, a number of water tanker trucks and additional crews were brought to the scene and the crews were able to extinguish the fire but remained on scene extinguishing hot spots till 1:30 pm.
There was no dollar loss associated with the fire and no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is undetermined; citizens are being reminded that the open-air burning ban is still in effect for the entire city at this time and as well are also cautioned to carefully dispose of smoker’s materials.
