Free music performances from award-winning artists added to Celebrate Canada 150 Day on July 1
HAMILTON, ON - May 5, 2017 - On Canada Day, July 1, Hamilton’s Celebrate Canada 150 Day Signature Event will feature free live music performances by three spectacular award-winning Canadian artists: Jully Black, Steve Strongman and Sarah Slean on the RBC Stage in Bayfront Park.
Jully Black
A true Canadian icon, Jully was named as one of ‘The 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever’ (CBC Music) and has been dubbed ‘Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul’ by her fans and peers. As a platinum recording artist, her music career has yielded multiple singles reaching the Top 10 pop, R&B and dance music charts. She has taken home multiple Juno Awards, earned many industry accolades and was hand selected to sing for the Queen of England.
Steve Strongman
Steve is an award-winning Canadian bluesman who constantly pushes himself in new directions as a guitar-slinger, songwriter and vocalist. He is a subtle shape-shifter who never sounds an inauthentic note or loses touch with the essence of the blues, in the tradition of The Howlin’ Wolf Album and Muddy Waters’ After the Rain.
Sarah Slean
Signed to Atlantic/Warner Records at the tender age of 19, and classically trained from the age of five, this three-time Juno nominee and modern-day Renaissance Woman has since released 11 albums in over 10 countries worldwide; but, perhaps the most astonishing aspect of her artistry is its breadth. Over her 20-year career, Slean has published two volumes of poetry, starred in short films and a movie musical (spawning two Gemini Award nominations), penned two string quartets, held numerous exhibitions of her paintings, and shared the stage with eight of Canada's professional orchestras.
“This year, Hamilton joins cities across the country to celebrate Canada’s 150th year as a nation. This important anniversary offers us all a chance to reflect on our city’s contributions to the growth of our nation – from our proud industrial roots to the exciting revitalization transforming our city. It’s also a chance to imagine the kind of city we want to build moving forward.”
Fred Eisenberger, Mayor
City of Hamilton
