Multiple Alarm Fire in Central Hamilton
Hamilton, ON - This morning at approximately 10:07 a.m. the Hamilton Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 8 Tisdale St. at the corner of King St. East in Ward 3. First arriving units found heavy smoke and fire on the second floor of a three storey building that contains both commercial and residential occupancies ( Tisdale Apartments). Given the rapidly changing conditions and the nature of the occupancy the alarm was upgraded to bring additional resources from across the City to assist. Firefighters immediately entered the building and began both search and rescue and firefighting operations. Some of the residents from the apartments were in the process of self evacuating however, one resident and pet was rescued from a third floor window by firefighters and bought done to safety. The fire was quickly brought under control and was confined to an apartment on the second floor. Three residents of the building were assessed at the scene by Hamilton Paramedics but refused treatment. Damage is estimated at $60,000 and it has been determined that the cause of fire was an unattended candle.
