Investing in roads & community: Garner roadwork update
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is providing an update on roadwork along Garner Road between Kitty Murray Lane and approximately 380 metres west of Raymond Road.
The project is a key investment in infrastructure to support future growth in the Airport Employment Growth District. It will help create space for jobs and services, support a future French school and add green space for the community.
Current work
Work continues near Springbrook Avenue, where crews are repairing a section of sewer affected by challenging underground conditions, including excess water and unstable soil conditions affecting recently installed infrastructure. These conditions required additional work to ensure the long-term integrity of the sewer system. Crews are stabilizing the area and completing repairs in stages to allow materials to properly set.
Timeline (weather permitting)
- Underground repairs currently being finalized
- End of April 2026: Road restoration and adjustments
- End of May 2026: Final landscaping and site reinstatement
Next steps
Once underground work is complete and confirmed to meet required standards, crews will move to road restoration, including resurfacing and final grading adjustments.
Traffic impacts
Temporary traffic signals will remain in place near Springbrook Avenue to help manage traffic flow. Two-way traffic is expected to return once road restorations and adjustments are complete.
After reopening, any additional lane closures are expected to be short-term and localized, with minimal impacts.
Project delays
Unforeseen underground conditions, including excess water and soil instability, , required additional repairs and extended the project timeline. The City continues to work with the contractor to complete this project safely and as efficiently as possible.
Road closures can be disruptive, and the City appreciates residents’ patience as this work continues. The project will deliver long-term benefits to Hamilton’s streets, neighbourhoods and greater community.
