Rogers Hometown Hockey coming to Hamilton for the First Time
Hamilton, ON - September 7, 2016 - The City of Hamilton is happy to announce that Hamilton has been chosen as one of 24 communities across Canada to host the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour during the 2016-2017 season.
This will be the first time that Hamilton has hosted a Rogers Hometown Hockey tour stop and broadcast. Hamilton will also be the final stop on the tour.
Weekend of free outdoor hockey festivities & outdoor viewing party of an NHL game to be hosted live by Ron MacLean
The tour will arrive in Hamilton on Saturday, April 8, 2017 and continue through Sunday April 9, 2017. The free, family-friendly weekend will include interactive games and activities celebrating all things hockey, plus live entertainment, a chance to meet NHL alumni and lots of free contests and giveaways.
Local minor hockey associations will also be invited to participate in the “All Stars Program” to receive exclusive access and perks at the event and the “Cheer Like Never Before” contest. Across the nation, minor hockey teams record their best cheer and submit it online in the hopes of being voted into the top 5 in their community. The top 5 Hamilton teams will cheer live at the event, with the winning team moving on to the national finals and a chance to win a grand prize.
The weekend will culminate in an outdoor viewing party of an NHL broadcast on the Sunday, with Ron MacLean hosting live from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio. MacLean will feature grassroots hockey stories and tales of local players that helped build Hamilton’s hockey community.
“This hockey season, Canadians across the country will get to experience the game they love with the ones they love,” says City of Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger. “Here in Hamilton, a proud hockey town, we couldn’t be more thrilled to share our hockey stories with the nation and to host this exciting event for the first time in our community.”
The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour is a season-long, touring hockey festival visiting a different Canadian town each weekend between October 2016 and April 2017. The full event schedule and broadcast details for Hometown Hockey in Hamilton will be announced closer to the event weekend.
