Unusual Drug Poisonings and Increased Paramedic Responses in the community
Reported symptoms from drug poisonings and increased Emergency Medical Services calls this week may indicate a change in the local drug supply and heightened risk of overdose and harm.
- Unusual post overdose symptoms have been reported in community this week include prolonged sedation, hallucinations, confusion, disorientation, inability to talk and potential aggression.
- Reports from community members about “tranq dope” and the return of xylazine in the local fentanyl supply along with benzodiazepine-related drugs and/or substances such as medetomidine.

- Careful Use - Test the effect with small amounts first and don’t use alone

- Call 911 for every drug poisoning
- Check your drugs – drug test strips are available at select community locations
- Perform CPR - Push hard, push fast
- Focus on breathing – with prolonged sedation the person may not wake up fully, but may be breathing normally
