WE HBA supports long-term planning to ensure the necessary supply of housing of all types and tenures ranging from low-rise, missing middle, midrise, ADUs and highrise. This includes policies to enable and support an Urban Boundary Expansion to ensure long-range planning and infrastructure is in place to accommodate growth. This also includes policies to enable the intensification of existing neighbourhoods to allow for more housing opportunities (often referred to as missing middle) including ADUs and flexible zoning permissions. This also includes high density housing opportunities downtown, in nodes and corridors and in MTSAs. WE HBA will be involved in a broad range of public policy discussion in support of public policies enabling more housing choices and opportunities. WE HBA will be engaged in consultation and providing advice on Mid Rise Residential Zones, Low Rise Residential Zones and High Rise zoning.

WE HBA will be engaged and provide comments, recommendations and advice to the city regarding Green Development Standards. This covers a wide range of issues from green building standards related to the construction and design of the structure itself to green development standards (sometimes referred to as Low Impact Development - LID) that are more related to planning policy on the landscape as well as a wide range of engineering standards. WE HBA will provide comments on everything from EV standards, green infrastructure, bird friendly design, construction standards and everything covered under to lens of sustainability, energy and climate resilience as well as climate mitigation and adaptation. With the passage of Bill 17, WE HBA will be advocating for the complete removal of building standards that outside of municipal jurisdiction.

WE HBA has been involved in the review of the City of Hamilton Development Charges Background Study and By-Law. We supported maintaining downtown exemptions/discounts and a number of other discounts and provide the City with detailed financial analysis. WE HBA will also provide advice and recommendations for temporary or permanent reductions on development charges and on related municipal imposed charges on new housing including Parkland Dedication By-Laws and Parkland Studies as well as the removal of Community Benefits Charges. We are opposed to increases in Planning Fees and other new taxes, charges and fees. We are advocating for temporary or longer-term reductions.
