REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB) engages in ongoing meetings and correspondence with committees and staff to provide expert recommendations to the City of Hamilton on housing and real estate ownership policies. 

Communicating with municipal officials about (i) enhancing economic opportunities for the steel sector, (ii) protecting steel and automotive supply chains, and (iii) promoting environmental sustainability (including through decarbonization initiatives).

Meeting with members of Council to discuss the organization's support for the City's ERASE environmental remediation program.

Conversations with Council and staff on potential public policies related to the regulation of home-sharing, including fair and easy-to-follow rules and matters pertaining to the rental of residential swimming pools and other home areas.

Ongoing support for the ERASE Redevelopment Grant Program to clean up sites and facilitate brownfield re-development in Hamilton

The WE HBA is strongly supportive of Transit Oriented Communities to support intensification and the objectives of the provincial growth plan. The WE HBA intends to advocate for planning and transportation policies that support new housing supply through transit oriented communities. Such advocacy will include updating secondary plans to support intensification, pre-zoning in the downtown and along transit corridors as well as a more permissive planning framework to allow for more housing options within established neighbourhoods (missing middle) with transit supportive densities.

The WE HBA intends to be remain involved in the implementation of the City of Hamilton's new Official Plan to ensure conformity with the Provincial Policy Statement and the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. This includes supporting measures to meet provincial targets of 47,000 new units over the next decade to accommodate forecasted growth. WE HBA will be providing comments and recommendations on any consultations related to implementation including secondary plans, infrastructure planning and zoning. WE HBA continues to support the Urban Boundary Expansion. We also support missing middle zoning permissions and significant reforms to planning to facilitate much higher levels of intensification.

WE HBA is a strong supporter of the LRT and intends to be involved in working group and committees related to the construction of the LRT and any zoning/development opportunities in the LRT corridor. WE HBA also supports transit oriented development throughout entire BLAST network and will advocate from appropriate zoning in these corridors as well as in vicinity of GO stations. WE HBA is supportive of expanded GO to Confederation.

WE HBA intends to be involved in upcoming reviews of the City of Hamilton Development Charges Background Study as well as any related municipal imposed charges on new housing including Parkland Dedication By-Laws and Parkland Studies as well as Community Benefits Charges.
